Reading Is Resistance.

Please don’t mistake my silence over the past 10 months for inaction.
Since the election, I’ve been in overdrive — attending town halls and protests, calling lawmakers and knocking on doors, researching and writing — all while trying to maintain a semblance of peace amid the chaos.
It’s been all-consuming, but Popinjay has never been far from my mind or heart.
This little book business was never meant to be political. It was meant to bring joy, celebrate all families, cultivate empathy, and embrace differences — values everyone could get behind and benefit from.
However, the current administration has made these values political.
I’ve hesitated to speak out through Popinjay because I don’t want to profit from social unrest. That’s an anti-capitalist business owner for ya.
So, let me just say this: Whether it’s Popinjay books or not, reading diverse and inclusive books is an act of resistance.
Please support your local bookstores, independent publishers, and public libraries — and read diverse and inclusive books with the kids in your life.
